Backroading is the practice of driving/partying on "backroads" aka dirt roads. This is a popular pastime in the rural American South.

The title "Above Ground" alludes to the status symbol attributed to in-ground pools, in contrast to the negative perception often associated with above-ground pools.

The photograph depicts Amber's hand-built childhood home. They say, "being raised off-the-grid and homeschooling created an island of forest around us which acted as both a buffer from societal pressures to conform and isolation from community."

The photograph depicts a gathering of people in a rural location. Stitched over the image is a glittering thread reminiscent of shattered glass or a web. The piece explores close-knit rural communities and their get-togethers.

Here, we first see an older white male surrounded by water but close to land, he is covering his eyes while threads bleed from them. In the next frame, we see a flurry of motion as he moves to escape unraveling with this surroundings.
